Deleting your CharterVote account

CharterVote is run by Plusky IT Solutions. This page explains how to have your CharterVote account closed and the personal data held with it erased, what is removed, what has to be kept, and how long it takes.

If you have a CharterVote sign in

Organisers, team administrators and nominating board members can do this themselves. It does not need a request and nobody has to approve it.

1. Sign in at chartervote.com.
2. Open Privacy from the account menu.
3. Choose Request account deletion.
4. Enter your password and type DELETE MY ACCOUNT to confirm.

Your account is then scheduled for erasure and you have 30 days to change your mind. You can cancel from the same Privacy page at any point during those 30 days. After 30 days the erasure runs automatically and cannot be reversed.

Two things that will stop it

The platform will refuse the request and tell you why if either of these is true, because both would leave other people stranded:

• You own an organisation that still has other members. Transfer ownership first, then delete your account.
• Your organisation has an active subscription. Cancel it first so billing closes cleanly.

If you do not have a sign in

Voters do not hold CharterVote accounts. If you registered to vote in an election, your details were given to the organisation running it, and that organisation decides what happens to them; CharterVote holds them on that organisation's behalf. Ask them first, because they can act immediately.

What is erased and what is kept

Erasure replaces every personal identifier rather than leaving gaps in records that other people rely on.

Erased

• Your name and email address, replaced with a marker that identifies nobody.
• Your password, and any password reset or email verification tokens.
• Your name and address on any election roll you appear on, and on the record of emails we sent you.

Kept

• Sealed election records, results and certificates. These are the tamper-evident record an election exists to produce, and members of an organisation rely on being able to verify them years later. They carry no personal identifier once erasure has run.
• The audit trail of actions taken on the platform, which is what makes a result checkable. It records that an account acted, not who the person was.
• Records we are required to keep by law, such as invoices and payment records, for as long as the law requires.

Ballots are not in either list, because no ballot is ever linked to a voter. The platform records that somebody voted and never how, so there is nothing in a ballot to erase.

How long it takes

• Account deletion you request yourself: 30 days, cancellable throughout, then automatic.
• A request through the form above: confirmed by email within 48 hours, then acted on within 30 days.
• Voter details on finished elections are erased automatically once the organisation's retention period has passed, whether or not anybody asks.
