Deleting your data on CharterVote

CharterVote is run by Plusky IT Solutions. This page is for having personal data about you erased without closing an account. If you want the account gone as well, use deleting your account instead.

What you can ask us to remove

• Your name and email address on an election roll you registered for.
• The record of emails the platform sent you, and your address in it.
• Your entry in an organisation's member directory.
• Feedback or messages you sent us that carry your address.

How to ask

1. If you have a CharterVote sign in, open Privacy from the account menu, where you can download everything held about you, change what email you receive, and close the account outright.
2. If you registered to vote in an election, the organisation running it decides what happens to your details and can act at once. Ask them first.
3. Otherwise, or if you would rather come to us, use the form below.

Tell us what to remove and where it is, for example the organisation whose election you registered for. If you would rather we removed everything, say so and we will treat it as a full erasure.

What we cannot remove

Sealed election records, published results and certificates of election stay, because they are the tamper-evident record the platform exists to produce and members of an organisation rely on verifying them long afterwards. They carry no personal identifier once erasure has run. The audit trail stays for the same reason: it records that an account acted, not who the person was.

No ballot is ever linked to a voter, so there is nothing in a ballot to remove. The platform records that somebody voted and never how.

We also keep records the law requires us to keep, such as invoices, for as long as it requires.

How long it takes

• You confirm the request by email, which keeps the link live for 48 hours.
• We act on a confirmed request within 30 days.
• Voter details on finished elections are erased automatically once the organisation's retention period has passed, whether or not anybody asks.
